San Lorenzo is our spacious former family home, lovingly restyled to create a cozy and comfortable environment in which to unwind after a long day of adventures in the Val d’Orcia which is brimful with possibilities.
The Residenza, built around 1890, enjoys a superb position within the walled ‘centro storico’ at a further 50m from the main gate, the highest point in the village, and can be reached after a pleasant meandering climb though the immaculately kept miniature streets of Monticchiello. It is set in its own ample grounds embraced by the imposing ancient and robust medieval walls and towers. A wide variety of trees and flowers perfume the air and a small open-air bath awaits you next to the veranda to allow you to ease your bones after the day’s exertions. At night the skies reveal their bounty and here in this special part of the world we don’t need to wait for August for the ‘tears of Saint Lawrence, as the Perseid meteor shower has been called. The skies twinkle and dance all year around set in this splendid backdrop, a marriage of historical charm and modern comforts. The ground floor offers an enormous shared living space between, kitchen, dining room and living area. Guests can enjoy the blessedly cool interiors in summer time or toast beside the log fires constantly topped up by Luano in winter time. The 3 airy bedrooms upstairs are immaculate and pristine and offer views into infinity.
A generous breakfast is served at La Porta each morning where guests can decide their itinerary for the day with the assistance of Daria and her team but we also have ample facilities in the kitchen for you to rustle up a meal or enjoy a quality coffee in your own time.
